Definitions : empathy * empowerment * blind spots * the working alliance
Empowerment : the idea that if people are given information, resources,
and opportunity while being held responsible for their life outcomes,
they will be more productive and have greater satisfaction.
The working alliance may be defined as the joining of a client's reasonable side with a therapist's
working or analyzing side. Bordin conceptualized the working alliance as consisting of three parts:
tasks, goals, and bond. Tasks are what the therapist and client agree
need to be done to reach the client's goals.

Multiple choice : realistic goal * the helping relationship * effective helping

Essays : barriers to help, * active listening, * purposes for GENOGRAM,

====================
One critical way of showing respect is empathy, the ability to understand the client form his or her point of view and, when appropriate, to communicate this understanding to the client. Put simply, it involves an understanding and feeling for the mental states and emotions of another person and, I would add, how the person's context influences his or her thinking and feeling. - GERARD EGAN
====================
Helpers don't self-righteously "empower" clients. That would be patronizing and condescending... effective counselors help clients discover, develop, and use the untapped power within themselves.
====================
blind spots: gaps in their perceptions and assessment of the situation, of others and of themselves - their patterns, the impact of their behaviour on the situation, their strengths.
